1. Did you choose the writing profession or did it choose you?

Writing grabbed me by the neck, sat me in a chair and nailed my shoes to the floor.

2. What is your background? (education, work, etc.)

As a marketing consultant for a publishing company I help people get their book grow legs and walk out the door. I soon found I had a book in me and caught the bug.

3. When did you ‘know’ you were a writer?

When I stopped thinking. Thinking about who was going to read this dribble, what they were going to say and what my mother didn’t say.

4. How would you describe your style of writing?

Ann Lamot meets Louise Hay at the Pizza joint. I tried to keep a light style so my readers will stay awake and learn something.

5. What is your writing process?

As Oscar Wilde once said, “I put in the period I took out yesterday.” I actually think about writing even when I am not at the computer. There is a story in almost every moment.

6. What was your path to publication?

I self publish my last four books but am looking into getting an agent this time around. I know a publisher of self-published books who is a great resource.

7. What is your favorite self-marketing idea?

E-direct mail. It is easy and fun to write a short bit of info that intrigues the buyer.

8. What are the biggest surprises you’ve encountered as a writer?

When I first started I could believe how hard this job is. Isolation, self doubt, and wanting to do anything but write. I mean anything; took out a wall in the dining room, remodeled the bath and even re-roof the house one time

9. How do you inspire yourself? What are your sources of creativity?

Life inspires me. Everyday situations can be the best source of inspiration. I read and watch programs that move me off my butt and on to the thing I am called to do.

10. What is your proudest writer moment?

When my first article for a major magazine was published which led to a my first book.

11. What’s the best advice you were given about writing?

Stick with it, you’ll get better.

12. What is your most embarrassing writer moment?

A New York agent and I were talking about my book when I looked down to see I had toilet paper on my arm. (Don’t ask) We laughed fortunately it was clean TP.

13. What business challenges have you faced as a writer?

Show me the money. Show me the money. Patience is profitable so I’ve heard.

14. What is your writer life philosophy?

There is something deep inside me; my true self that will not let me alone. It needs me to nurture myself and therefore nurture the world. So after years of fight with my true self I say why not go for it. Write.

15. When you’re not writing what do you do for fun?

Hike, walk, raft ride, movies, out with friends and people watching.

16. Who do you like to read?

Self help books, historical novels, marketing games.

17. What’s your advice for new writers?

Use writing as a Vehicle to your inner self. No matter whether you are writing fiction or non-fiction you are writing who you are to get to know who you are. Enjoy the journey.

18. What are you currently working on?

I am finishing up my book, Say “YES!” to Life: How to Live Life and Love It!  When you learn to communicate from your true self; your authentic wisdom helps you to do anything that you set your desires to. I overcame cancer twenty plus years ago by using this combination process of communication skills and inn-communication skills.
