1. Did you choose the writing profession or did it choose you? It choose me. 2. What is your background? (education, work, etc.) Attended a business school. Worked for American Airlines. Have volunteered for many non-profit organizations.
3. When did you ‘know’ you were a writer? After reading one of my short stories to a group of other writers, it clicked. I’m a writer too.
4. How would you describe your style of writing? Detailed, descriptive, weaving characters together in a small town setting.
5. What is your writing process? I write four hours every night. I attempt to write 1000 words a day. 6. What was your path to publication? I started with short stories.
7. What is your favorite self-marketing idea? I tell the people that buy my book, to tell ten others, if they enjoy reading it. Also, I encourage them to pass it around, to get my name known.
8. What are the biggest surprises you’ve encountered as a writer? That my characters take on a life of their own. I’m surprised at what they do and where they go.
9. How do you inspire yourself? What are your sources of creativity? I read every day. I listen to people’s conversations.
10. What is your proudest writer moment? When a famous published author told me, “I liked your book. I read it through without stopping.
11. What’s the best advice you were given about writing? Write what you know, whether it’s fiction or non-fiction.
12. What is your most embarrassing writer moment? Finding typo’s in my self-published book after going over it many times.
13. What business challenges have you faced as a writer? Marketing. It definitely is not my strong point.
14. What is your writer life philosophy? Write every day, even if it’s not something you plan to publish.
15. When you’re not writing what do you do for fun? I play domino’s and canasta. I have two yorkie’s that love to walk.
16. Who do you like to read? Everything. I like romance, mystery and non-fiction books.
17. What’s your advice for new writers? Put all of your thoughts down on paper. Don’t try to edit as you go.
